- Tocai Friulano Collio - 6 Litre
According to historians this splendid wine, which in Friuli is the synonym of "white", has been cultivated in Northwest Italy since the middle ages and, in the XIII century, the Patriarch of Aquileia, Bertoldo, sent some vines to the King of Hungary, Bela IV. Perhaps these are only legends, but it is true that Tocai Friulano, dry white wine “par excellence”, has nothing to do with the Hungarian Tokaji, a mixture of different grapes that is almost always sweet.
A great wine, very clear, almost crystalline, bright; its colour brings to mind mimosa flowers, with lemon coloured transparency. It has a dry taste, refreshing, aromatically rounded, with a bitter aftertaste of almonds and imperceptibly of walnuts.
Delicious when paired with baked fish and fish soup, but also with speck, San Daniele ham, Friuli salami, eggs and bacon, boiled asparagus, boiled eggs and radicchietto salad, frittata with herbs and desserts. It should be served at 12°C during spring and summer; and at 14°C in autumn and winter. Serve in a tulip shaped, medium stemmed glass. |
